Botswana Oil Fuels Growth, Boosts Citizen Participation – Updates

A strong financial showing by Botswana Oil Limited (BOL) is reinforcing its dual role as both a national energy security anchor and a catalyst for citizen-driven economic growth in Botswana. The state-owned energy company reported Profit Before Tax of P299 million and Profit After Tax of P246 million, while dividends increased to P44 million, reflecting improved shareholder value and sustained operational growth.

Botswana Oil said the results demonstrate the company’s continued commitment to sustainable growth, operational excellence, and long-term value creation for Botswana. Beyond its financial performance, BOL’s expanding footprint in citizen economic empowerment is emerging as a central pillar of its growth strategy, with increasing localisation across the fuel supply and logistics value chain.

The company revealed that in the 2025/26 financial year alone, it invested more than P609.8 million in fuel transportation services, with 42 percent, equivalent to P256 million, directed toward citizen-owned transport companies. Over the past five years, Botswana Oil has onboarded 36 citizen-owned transporters, while citizen operators now manage more than 230 trucks, accounting for approximately 66 percent of the company’s required fleet capacity.

BOL said its empowerment initiatives are contributing meaningfully to employment creation, business growth, and long-term economic resilience by strengthening local transport enterprises and facilitating access to opportunities within the fuel sector. At the same time, the company is advancing Botswana’s long-term energy security ambitions through strategic infrastructure expansion and international partnerships, positioning itself at the centre of the country’s evolving energy landscape.

Botswana Oil currently maintains national fuel cover of 15 days and is targeting a long-term increase to 136 days through its strategic partnership with Oman, a move expected to significantly enhance national energy resilience. Major infrastructure projects such as the Francistown Depot Expansion and the upcoming Ghanzi Depot Project are expected to improve fuel accessibility, strengthen supply stability and support economic growth across the country.

Botswana Oil noted its long-term vision remains focused on securing Botswana’s energy future while ensuring citizen participation remains central to the country’s economic transformation journey.
