Lucara Diamond Corp. has recovered a 36.92-carat high-quality blue Type IIB diamond from its Karowe Mine in Botswana, this time not from fresh ore but from surface stockpile material, underscoring the untapped value of legacy resources.
According to President and CEO William Lamb, the recovery reflects the “special nature” of the Karowe asset and the continued importance of stockpiles as a reliable source of mill feed and revenue generation.
The rare blue stone, recovered using X-ray Transmission (XRT) technology, highlights how advanced recovery methods are unlocking high-value diamonds from previously processed material. The find reinforces Karowe’s reputation as one of the world’s most prolific sources of exceptional stones.
Year-to-date, Lucara has also recovered five diamonds exceeding 100 carats from stockpile processing, signalling a strategic shift towards maximising existing assets while maintaining consistent high-value output.
Beyond the individual discovery, the development points to a broader industry trend, re-evaluating resource efficiency, sustainability and value extraction in mature mining operations.
