Masama Coal Mine – A Strategic Asset in Southern Botswana

Located on the southwestern edge of the Mmamabula Coalfield, approximately 60km northeast of Gaborone, the Masama Coal Mine offers a competitive cost structure driven by its shallow, high-quality coal resource and cost-effective opencast mining methods. Its proximity to key infrastructure, including rail, road, and water, gives it a logistical edge over other regional coal suppliers.

Minergy Coal, a wholly owned subsidiary of Minergy, holds the Mining Licence (ML 2018/9L), which was granted in August 2018 for a 25 year period. The licence area hosts an independently verified 374 million tonne (MT) coal resource. In addition, Minergy holds a 352 km² Prospecting Licence for coal and coal-bed methane adjacent to the mining area.

Masama Mine produces large tonnages of export-grade thermal coal, well-suited for markets across Africa and potentially for export to India, Asia and China, depending on favorable market conditions
