New Kimberlite Field Discovery in Angola by De Beers

In partnership with Angola’s national diamond company, Endiama, the De Beers Group has announced a major breakthrough in their joint exploration programme, the discovery of kimberlite, the host rock for diamonds in Angola.

The joint venture intersected kimberlite in its first drill hole into a high priority cluster of targets in July 2025, identified from airborne surveys conducted in March 2025. This marks the first new kimberlite field discovery by De Beers in more than 30 years. Over the coming months, the team will carry out further drilling, ground geophysical surveys and laboratory analysis to determine the kimberlite type and its diamond-bearing potential.

The find follows two Mineral Investment Contracts signed between De Beers and the Government of Angola in April 2022 and a Memorandum of Understanding concluded at the Mining Indaba in February 2024. These agreements lay the groundwork for a long term collaboration aimed at unlocking Angola’s diamond resources responsibly and sustainably.

De Beers Group Chief ExecutiveOfficer Al Cook, described Angola as “one of the best places on the planet to look for diamonds,” adding that the discovery strengthens the company’s confidence in the country’s geological potential. “It is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through partnership and I commend President Lourenço and his government for all the work they have done to enhance transparency, adopt international best practices and create a business-friendly environment, all of which has enabled us to return to Angola and seek new sources of supply,” noted Cook.

He emphasised De Beers’ commitment to contributing to Angola’s development beyond mining. “We are excited about the role De Beers can play in helping the country deliver on its huge potential, both below and above the ground,” added Cook. The discovery is a significant milestone for Angola’s mining sector, which has been implementing reforms to attract global investment and increase its share of the international diamond market.

Endiama and De Beers’ exploration success signals renewed momentum in the country’s bid to establish itself as a top-tier diamond producer while ensuring environmental stewardship and community benefits.
