Sandfire Backs Botswana Mining Supply Chain Boost

Through its subsidiary Tshukudu Metals Botswana (TMB), Sandfire has joined an industry-wide initiative led by Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy to strengthen local mining supply chains. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), also signed by Kopano Copper Mine, Debswana Diamond Company, Morupule Coal Mine, Botswana Railways, Botswana Ash and the Botswana Chamber of Mines, aligns with the Government’s Citizen Economic Empowerment Programme (CEEP) and the Repairs & Rebuild Ecosystem.

The initiative aims to identify high-demand products within mining operations, promote local production and support small and medium enterprises through supply chain development. Sandfire has pledged to back the Repairs & Rebuild Ecosystem and its associated training facilities, focusing on efficient delivery of repair services and skills development.

This includes leveraging local workshops, existing training institutions, and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), as well as investing in new facilities to expand capacity and maintain a robust trade support network. By participating, Sandfire and partners hope to enhance local capabilities, boost economic empowerment and ensure a sustainable, thriving supply chain in Botswana’s mining sector.
